ManxGP IoM -Day 10 Aug 28th – Blog by Alan Boyter Vendetta Racing
Busy day today, we know we had a lot to get done on the bike so we were down to the pits working by 10am. The quick shifter issue ended up being some water in the electrics but I only found this out after taking apart half of the loom! ah well, at least its working now.
Quickshifter sorted only after having to strip most of the loom apart - Doh !!
We also swapped the chain out for a new one, the idea that the practice would bed it in and we could re-adjust it for the race. The downside of the day was the weather, we we’re praying for it to stay dry.
Noon came and it was time to go pick up Dara and Jen! they have been having fun in London for the last 3 days before they came over, and it was great to see them again. On the drive back the inevitable happened, it rained.
We got back and were showing the girls the sights and we bumped into Pete Devlin from Dubai! we knew he was coming over but it was still a surprise to bump into him like that.
The weather went from bad to worse with some heavy showers throughout the afternoon so we swapped over to intermediate tyres and waited for scrutineering. 5pm came and we took the bike up for its daily check and it was quite spooky as it was empty! it would appear that there was a lot of people not bothering with the practice due to the weather, we on the other hand needed it, as if any of the races were wet Steve would need to know what it was going to be like.

Steve got away with a delay due to a huge diesel spill on the track and within 5 minutes of him gone I heard my phone ringing I was quite confused when I seen the caller ID as Skiddy Blackney? oh dear ! He got as far as Glen Vine and had seen the oil light come on so he pulled in to be on the safe side. Once the roads had re-opened Steve nursed the bike back to the pits, but the light had never come back on. On the Yamaha R6 race loom there is no oil pressure switch, only a level float, so as the bike still had all its oil we are presuming that the float had got stuck due to the bumpy roads. Still learning new things about road racing everyday, so different to circuit racing!
