Dakar: Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi and co-driver Xavier Panseri end Dakar campaign in 6th overall

CORDOBA (ARGENTINA): Abu Dhabi Racing and Peugeot Middle East official driver Sheikh Khalid bin Faisal Al Qassimi, behind the wheel of a Peugeot 3008 DKR Maxi with Xavier Panseri as co-driver, completed the final Cordoba-Cordoba loop in 10th to ultimately classify in 6th overall following a gruelling 14-day campaign of the 2018 edition of the Dakar Rally.

The Cordoba-Cordoba loop ran over a total distance of 286km with 166km comprising of the liaison section and the remainder 120km making up the special stage.

The final day saw the curtains come down on one of the biggest off-road adventures in the world where the best of the best vie for top honours over 14 days of racing in some of the most demanding and often unpredictable conditions.

It was a satisfying and successful end to a campaign that saw fluctuating fortunes for the Abu Dhabi Racing driver, including a broken suspension on the penultimate stage and negotiating through terrain ranging from sand dunes, loose soil and vegetation – not to mention being stranded in swelling river waters following an incessant downpour on Day 7.

When he began his campaign on January 6, Sheikh Khalid’s primary goal was to just complete the endurance and gain as much of experience as possible. But finishing inside the top 10 with a sixth overall classification is a huge achievement for the Abu Dhabi Racing driver.

Having achieved such an excellent result in just his second Dakar campaign, after retiring on Stage 13 last year due to technical issues, Sheikh Khalid today is understandably elated and said: “I was not pushing on the final stage because we wanted to bring the car home safely.

“I am happy to have finished the Dakar this year. All along I was dreaming of finishing inside the top 15, and here I am in 6th place overall!

“Even though I enjoyed myself a lot, it was not an easy adventure, the route was very challenging. Importantly, our times were in the top five at most of the waypoints on stages.

“Everyone in the team did a great job; I would like to thank each and everyone on the team for the hard work that they have put in which has gone a long way in producing this result.

“I also would like to congratulate Peugeot Sport on winning the Dakar with Carlos Sainz, amazing performance indeed. and now the matador has 2 Dakar titles under his belt (2010 and 2018).”

A competition of extremes and an orienteering race, the Dakar brings together the leading rally raid riders and drivers, as well as amateur competitors who come to fulfil their dream, experience an adventure and meet the biggest challenge of their life on a bike, on a quad, in a car or in a truck. Over the last 40 years, each year 500 participants from more than 60 nationalities have come together for 15 days of a unique competition on which extraordinary feats of human endeavour are played out.

Why all of sudden your post it's about Rossi's throwback? Will he retired? 😭😭 I hope not 😭😭

And the runaway leader goes to : #MM93Alien

Rossi’s bike always struggles on acceleration out of slow corners even compared to other Yamahas

Perez is Magnussen's Kryptonite

The Stewards determined that the manoeuvre by Perez met the definition of driving “unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers” and therefore ordered a reprimand.

Am glad Checo gave Magnussen a dose of one's own medicine!

Bring back memories where perez slammed into Sirotkin.. so talented!

Perez driving slow, looked over, drove deliberately in front of magnussen. Starts his lap. Complains about his own actions. People is saying karma. If this was your precious Hamilton it would have been a different view right? Or max, or leclerc. Yes I thought so.

Love Singapore track, lots of action💪🏁Forza Ferrari🇮🇹

No sane F1 driver, on a warm-up lap, would try to pass another driver also on a warm-up lap on the outside in the run down to the last corner as both cars were about to begin a lap. That's the absolute last thing the driver ahead would anticipate him doing. And for all you geniuses who think that Perez turned into him, he was moving to the right to begin accelerating ahead of the last corner to begin a flying lap. The last corner is a left, so the natural entry line is on the right.

It's not like Kevin is an angel on track. The only reason he has mirrors on his car, is to generate airflow.

Nice to see they implemented a "minimum speed limit on track" after the last races farce. Ooh look, it was the pink cars fault... AGAIN!

Magnussen is probably the first driver in the history of F1 that managed to anger every driver on the grid, says it all tbf what kind of driver he is, like what the hell?😂

Once again Perez being a 🔔🔚 in Singapore! Must be something in the air

Perez wanted room to start a hotlap and Mag did not cede this space, so the touch... If Mag wasn't around fast, you should have facilitated Perez's work!

I won't even bother trying to explain this one, as 99% of the fan base clearly expect the drivers to treat the racetrack like a highway.

These two worth each other, only Grosjean is "better'! 😉 :v

Perez doing great in Singapore putting people in the wall as usual. Slim’s money is the only reason he’s still in a car.

This was all mags fault in my opinion. Checo was just about to start his flying lap for. Qual sim run.

Perez is always doing this even on the last race in Singapore he did that to Ocon

Not a mistake,, deliberate. Perez loves being a d***k. Deserved a Pen

The track was clear on the other side, but he loves sandwiches

Actually is a qualy lap in f1 2019 game start the qualy and that moment a car exit

I swear a lot of you twats don’t even know the rules set by the stewards so you just comment just for the hell of it.

Both pay drivers.....

Small mistake but worth a 3 place penalty

Haas has issues with the car and the drivers.

What is with these Haas guys, consistently getting into trouble with others/each other
