Bahrain: Bahrain Superbike Championship crowns Mashel Al Naimi inaugural 2016 Champion

Final round 6 podium

May 16th 2016 – Bahrain’s premier motorcycle racing championship, the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) concluded its inaugural season with its 6th round on May 13th.

As per the previous 5 rounds, the event was held on the 2.55 km inner track at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), 12 riders took their place at the event which is set up in an “Arrive and Ride” in which riders compete using identical Ducati 899 Panigales.

Mishal Al Naimi (QAT) had already been crowned the series champion but was determined to complete the season with a 100% winning record. With the other riders in the championship improving their respective lap times, Mishal was required to push harder than before in order to secure his 2 victories and achieve his 100% win record. The BSBK is proud to crown him the series champion.

The event saw riders setting ever personal faster laps which led to both races having many close battles from lights out to the chequered flag. The happy faces and smiles in the pits area after each warm-up, qualifying and the races being testament to the enjoyment the riders were taking from the championship (qualifying saw 7 riders separated by just 1.3s!).

Both races finished with Mishal Al Neami in 1st , Fahah Al Suwaidi in 2nd and Ali Al Shammari in 3rd . The top 3 in the championship were the same 3 riders, in the same order.

Wesley Pearce who flew into Bahrain from the UK to compete in all 6 rounds of the championship. This dedication was rewarded with a 4th place finish in the championship, only 4 points behind Ali in 3rd place…

A gala dinner and prize giving was held at The Westin Hotel Bahrain City Center on May 14 to congratulate the riders and show the championships appreciation to the organiszers, sponsors and riders who made the Bahrain Superbike Championship Season 1 so successful.

Planning has already begun on how to make the championship even better so stay tuned for further news.

The championship would like to thank the following for their support in the BSBK Season 1, Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain Motor Federation, Bahrain Motorcycle Club, SevenFriday, The Westin, Wheels of Arabia, and Pirelli.
