FG1000 drivers at the start of the season 2011
Dubai, March 1st -After a break of two months, the region’s top single seater championship swings back into action on the challenging 4.3km International Circuit.
Still with six races to go, Championship leader Joe Ghanem (Orient Racing) will no doubt be anxious to get on the podium again given the close attentions of Mohamed Al Mutawaa (Yas Marina Circuit) and 18 year old Malaysian driver Natasha Seatter both of whom are regular visitors to the podium.
However, there could be a surprise or two as new to the FG1000 grid this weekend will be Palestinian driver Rasheed Nashashibi. Whilst not a regular racer, Nashashibi surprised a lot of people last season when he got on the podium after a superb one-off drive in the UAE GT Championship.
We will also see the second appearance of 17 year old Nicolas Canal who recently relocated from Madrid after testing and racing with the Emilio de Villota Junior Formula BMW Team.
UAE student Haytham Sultan Al Ali (National Bank of Umm Al Quwain) will be looking for a podium finish as will young Indian racer Harsh Rajpal (HV International).
All drivers train and compete in identical Formula cars run by one team to ensure that the best driver on the day wins.
Qualifying starts at 9.50 on Friday morning followed by 2 x 12 lap races at 11.50 and 15.15.
