Dubai, 8th March 2011-Abu Dhabi-based racing driver Humaid Al Masaood will race in the No.47 Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo in Round 7 of the Cytech UAE GT Championship taking place at the Dubai Autodrome this Friday.
Al Masaood is a successful businessman, racer and a member of The Drivers Club, the Jota-Sport run specialist high-performance driver coaching school setup by Sam Hancock in 2009. The 30-year old Emirati national has experience of GT racing in Europe and won his class in the Dubai 24 hour endurance race in 2010, and finished second in class this year.
He’s up for the challenge of racing the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo this weekend. “I’m very excited about it – I know that Maserati have a great car and I’m very keen to try the car. The car looks extremely good and it’s done really well in the championship so far and I’m looking forward to the experience.”
The usual driver in the No. 47 car, Robert Cregan, has recently moved to Australia to begin his career in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Championship and therefore isn’t able to race this weekend. Cregan hopes to return to the UAE to race in the season finale at Yas Marina Circuit at the end of the month.
David Field will join Al Masaood on the grid in his mechanically identical Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo, which wears No. 49. Field secured his first podium place of the season in the previous round of the UAE GT Championship and will be hoping for similar success this weekend.
Umberto Cini, Managing Director for Maserati Middle East and Africa, is looking forward to this weekend’s race. “It’s unfortunate that Robert can’t race this weekend to further his lead in the championship, but we are confident that Humaid has what it takes to fully exploit the potential of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo.”
