F1: Bahrain Grand Prix announced as a participants-only event to curtail spread of COVID-19

Sun Mar 8th – In consultation with our international partners and the Kingdom’s national health Taskforce, Bahrain has made the decision to hold this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix (Mar 22) as a participants-only event.

As an F1 host nation, balancing the welfare of supporters and race goers is a tremendous responsibility. Given the continued spread of Covid-19 globally, convening a major sporting event, which is open to the public and allows thousands of international travellers and local fans to interact in close proximity would not be the right thing to do at the present time.  But to ensure that neither the sport, nor its global supporter base, is unduly impacted, the race weekend itself will still go ahead as a televised event.

Bahrain’s own early actions to prevent, identify and isolate cases of individuals with Covid-19 has been extremely successful to date. The approach has involved rapid, proactive measures, identifying those affected by the virus, of which the overwhelming majority of cases relate to those travelling into the country by air.

Aggressive social distancing measures have further increased the effectiveness of preventing the virus’ spread, something that would clearly be near impossible to maintain were the race to have proceeded as originally planned.

We know how disappointed many will be by this news, especially for those planning to travel to the event, which has become a cornerstone event of the international F1 calendar, but safety has to remain our utmost priority.

Alexa, show 'Vintage Vettel' 👀 🍿 🤩 ... See Less

Comment on Facebook

Haters at every step. Racing at his best I don't care who is in the car.... There are a few drivers on the grid today that with a proper car are just unbeatable. And Seb is one of them. The guy is a 4 time world champion and he is lucky enough to drive for Ferrari.....he has his own page in the history of this sport.

Back in the days where Vettel dominated in the best car and Hamilton made mistakes by pushing his car too hard. A mirror image of the new formula one era. Difference being Vettel fans had a bit more class to them 🤷‍♂️

I love vintage vettel but also modern vettel is strong

In 2011 Vettel was unstoppable and Hamilton was struggling with many mistakes.

Sebastian Vettel has to be regarded as one of the best F1 drivers of all time

The noise produced by the exhaust blown diffuser really was awful, no better than the sound of Traction Control really

Always found Vettel to be the most shakable driver. Put under pressure he'll always either panic and make a mistake or will try a desperate move causing contact.

Like a wise man once said, “You don't become a four-time world champion by chance." I wanna see Seb in a Mercedes before he retires. Must be pretty scary.

You have to leave DA space! All DA time you have to leave DA space!

Surviving an encounter with a wild spaniard in an italian red car at the Temple of Speed. 👍

Vettel at that time could be called Pilot. Today I affectionately call him Drifter or Spinner ..

Vintage Vettel? I must have missed the part where he had a spin 🤣🤣🤣

This is one-off, vintage Vettel is Malaysia 2013!

Ferrari było jest siła i prędkość a Redbull to świetna aerodynamika i prowadzenie. Myślę że to główny powód że Vettel w Ferrari nie daje radę.

Someone has soooo much to thank to Adrian Newey...

Wheres this vettel? He was a monster in redbull!

Alexa.. show Alonso crying about the same move put on him a year later.

Imagine if he tried that nowadays, he'd probably crash into the back of Alonso & smash into the barriers.

Just shows how massive he is and how he lives rent free in everyone's heads that it's immediately inundated with comments, be it in awe or jealousy

この頃のV8とマシンバランスは、類を見ないほど圧倒的だった。

What a dispute between two great pilots, vettel at that time drove a lot!

That sound and time!! 😍

THIS is vintage vettel

Vettel needs to finish his career back at redbull

Well to be honest , if u put Vettel in a Mercedes, u'll have to put up a video with a caption, "vintage Hamilton, which fans miss" !!!

Great young man and Hopkins will be a good coach for the team.

Saw my first moto race and Joe Robert's started on the pole in Qatar! Was a blast but wish MotoGP could have been there. Maybe the Texas race will be the next one.

Us American fans can only hope. It’s been a long time since the golden age of American riders that I grew up watching.

Gosh, that livery is amazing. LOVE the helmet!

There is an American in super sport.

It's time to rise again USA 😀

Wish ya was racing at home this weekend!!!

All the Best💥..

J’espère qu’on va le revoir sur les podiums cette année après ce démarrage !

Dynamic duo!!!!

Long line ?

Good america moto gp

If the season would get shorten this year. I do believe this would be a great chance for Joe to capitalize on it. If Quartararo & Lecouna made it. He could do it too. But first, I can't wait to see him polish a few mistakes he & his team had in the first race. 😎

Use the front very late along with the rear you moron

Right on! We’re with you and watching.

Hate it when you do this, he has 1 podium and now all eyes are on him so he is gunna feel a mountain of pressure and if he fails that's the end of his career you guys got to stop making a big deal so early all the time what if he can't take the pressure of everyone focused on him 😒
