Karting: Batelco Racing team wins Dubai Kartdome Endurance Championship

F1 stars Fernando Alonso and Pedro de la Rosa compete at Dubai Kartdrome

Team Emirates tops Corporate Class and ZOOM Racing Team claims Nations Cup

Dubai, UAE, 17 December 2017:  CG Racing Pro won the fourth and final race of year, but it was Batelco Racing, with drivers Mohammed Mattar, Ramez Azzam and Saeed Al Mehairi, who took home the Pro Championship crown at the Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Championship on Saturday (16 December).

After 1132 laps and 24 hours of endurance racing, Batelco Racing had to overcome early setbacks to come from P22 all of the way back up to second place, securing an unprecedented fifth Pro Category title.

The drama started early on in qualifying, and not even a guest appearance by double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso could knock the Bahraini team off course in their quest for the championship.

Start of Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Championship Round 4

Alonso and his all Spanish team, FA Racing, appeared to have pole position wrapped up with his best lap time of 1:11.247 topping the timing screens, but in the dying seconds of qualifying Ramez Azzam of Batelco Racing clocked a monster lap of 1:11.198, nabbing pole over Alonso by just 0.049 seconds.

Despite just missing out on pole, Alonso enjoyed the atmosphere.  After qualifying he said, “It’s a nice event; we did enjoy it a couple of years ago, and here we are again with some of my friends, and Pedro de la Rosa and some other ex-drivers.  Happy to be here again and ready to enjoy.”

After securing pole position, all Batelco Racing had to do to secure the Pro championship was to stay ahead of arch rivals, CG Racing Pro, who qualified in sixth position, but after one hour of racing disaster struck.

The crew of Batelco Racing is normally a well-drilled unit, but two rare pit lane infringements sent the team tumbling down the grid order all of the way back into 22nd place.

Despite the horrible setback, the team remained focused.  Ali Abbas of Batelco Racing said, “We always have trust in our team and we always change our strategy according to the situation.”

The squad from Bahrain altered its tactics and slowly clawed its way up the grid throughout the night.  By morning the drivers had put themselves back into championship contention.

Meanwhile, CG Racing PRO, with drivers David Terrien, Rami Azzam, Alban Varutti and Piers Pakenham-Walsh, had also moved up the field, taking the lead.  By the end of the race, the Choueiri Group team made it look easy, taking the chequered flag a full lap ahead of its Batelco rivals. Karting Agadir was next in line to claim third.

Batelco Racing celebrated a historic fifth Pro title while CG Racing PRO won on the day but had to settle for second place in the championship.   Bin Drai Karting Team finished seventh in the race, enough to claim third place in the 2017 Pro Championship.

ZOOM Racing Team crossed the finish line in fourth, earning the team a first place trophy in the Nations Cup category, for drivers of the same nationality.  The class win, by drivers H. Bisht, Mohammed Hafiz, Arjun Manjunath and Anjum Shaikh, also secured the 2017 Nations Cup for the Indian squad.

Lukoil Racing Team of Russia finished sixth overall and claimed second place in the 2017 Nations Cup championship.  The Lebanese squad of CG Racing 1 finished fifteenth in the race, which was enough to grab third place in the championship.

Fernando Alonso and FA Racing just missed the Nations Cup podium, finishing tenth place in the race.

Team Emirates wrapped up another Corporate title by taking a class win and finishing twelfth overall.  CG Racing 1 earned another trophy by taking second place in the 2017 Corporate championship, while Redline Racing 1 took third place in the championship with a P20 finish in the race.

Race Director David Bright reflected, “The lap times of the drivers at the top of the grid and at the bottom were closer than it has ever been in the Endurance Championship.  This demonstrates the quality of drivers in the field and the excellent kart rotation system we employ to level the playing field.”

“With this system, the best drivers and best teams always manage to shine.  Well done to CG Racing Pro for winning round four and congratulations to Batelco Racing for winning the Pro title a record five times.”

We stand with all those fighting against racism in any form

Comment on Facebook

We stand with #F1 do you always have to reminded of true responsibility by the Champ #LewisHamilton Proudly black/colored❤️👌🙏👀

Really F1? And yet they held a Bahrain Grand Prix literally while the locals were protesting and being oppressed. One post created by your PR team while you’ve done nothing for real change seems quite meaningless. Do better.

Hamilton was on the receiving end of racism during the pre season tests at Catalunya in 2008, so he knows what it’s like firsthand. Good job he spoke out, especially with what happened in Minneapolis last week

Took a bit of criticism from your best driver for you to say something about it as a whole. We do this together.

Will F1 really take a stand and not hold events in countries with systemic human rights violations? I doubt it.

Humans are imperfect and forever will be. I doubt you can oppose and eradicate it. Each and every individual need to decide to not let these evil things from inside to take control of him. Once all the protests are over it will silence down only for it to come back again. How soon another protest will happen doesn't matter. How capable EACH and EVERY human is from getting controlled from the evil within is the real challenge. The lack of self control is the greatest human imperfection.

Whatever..day late..dollar short..only speaking up after prodding from Lewis...PR lip service...

Nice to finally hear from the American owners of F1. Been left to Lewis to lead the charge again.

Let's be real, had Lewis Hamilton not called them out. They wouldn't have said anything.

Let's fight against police brutality also! Why none entity can write it explicitly?

You missed the caveat... *yet we’ll still continue to do business & hold races in Russia, China, Bahrain, Vietnam & Abu Dhabi as well as for pushing for a deal with Saudi Arabia. Because human rights & oppression doesn’t bother us when there’s $ to be made.

What about all of the roits, and looting. Nothing will be said about it? People’s businesses ruined by this. But nothing will be said about it?

Seems like a miscalculated PR stunt to me. I don't think F1 has any business talking about anything other than racing, considering that F1 races are regularly held in countries with questionable-at-best records in human rights and equality. Also, what does the tragic failure of American politics and law enforcement have to do with racing? This is all rather disappointing, but what can you expect from an American-owned series.

So much racism in F1. I can’t wait for the day a person of color drives the best car on the grid, makes the most money, and becomes a multiple world champion... oh wait... never mind 🙄

We have to fight against this racism together. And also against the police brutality.

Should have done this before Lewis accused the whole paddock of racism

We are all one, we stand together as one. Respect to all. No matter the colour of your skin, region or beliefs. We are all one. ❤🌏

Lewis Hamilton is the voice of F1

What is this about?

I hope this isn't supporting the beating of innocent people and the burning/looting of innocent peoples businesses!

they're not gonna buy tickets or subscriptions, bro.

This is the first time F1 has a “political” view on things. Next: terminate the contracts with China?

Why do people get so angry when people try to say something good?

This is better I can support this message forever !!! Every other company charity and celebrity that are jumping on the band wagon can just do one ! Well done F1

Looks as though LH got his way...whining works
