Bahrain: Bahrain Superbike Championship announces BIC as official sponsor of the 2016-2017 season
Weds 21st Sept 2016 – The organizers behind the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) today announced the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), as an official sponsor of the Championships’ second season.
Led by Chief Executive Officer, Shaikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Bahrain International Circuit has shown a commitment to supporting a range of motor sports, creating a yearlong calendar of excitement and adrenaline within their premises. Shaikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa noted that the BIC is excited and proud to continue it’s affiliation and sponsorship of the BSBK Championship and to work with the team towards giving the series a permanent place in the circuit’s roster of events. This comes in light of the success of the Championship’s inaugural season, and in recognition of the sportsmanship and organizational quality behind the racing series, which drew in participants from Middle East and Europe.
Shaikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, further confirmed the circuit’s support of such entrepreneurial sporting events which successfully contribute to the development of motor sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He praised the organizational quality of the championship and wished the organizers and it’s participants continued success in second season.
From their end, Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) founders, Hussein Al Kooheji and Abdulrahman Almoayed expressed their sincere appreciation of the Bahrain International Circuit’s professionalism and their gratitude for the Circuit’s support, and namely that of Shaikh Salman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, of the event and their pride in affiliating with an entity that is dedicated to developing the presence of motor sports in the region.
The BSBK schedule for the new season, which includes 6 rounds, is set to commence with an official test day on October 7th. The race rounds will then begin on October 21st, with the second and third rounds scheduled to follow on November 25th and January 13th 2017 respectively. Rounds 4 and 5 will be held on February 11th and March 3RD 2017, with the series closing in round 6 on April 21st 2017. The organizing committee of the championship revealed that the season would also showcase a newly designed motorcycle emblazoned with the colors of the Bahrain flag.
Notably the Championships previous season witnessed both regional and international participation, with professional rider Qatari, Mashel Al Naimi, from the Ooredo Racing team, taking the Championship title with a score of 300 points whilst team mate Fahd AlSuwaidi came in as runner up with a tally of 188 points.
The organizing committee has made its mark in attracting world-class champions to it’s series, starting off it’s first season in the presence of Spanish world superbike champion, Carlos Checa, in addition to Italian Head of the Ducati Riding Experience (DRE) Dario Marchetti. Both celebrity riders were invited to view and work with the series participants’ in order to improve their riding skills and to gain insight on their expertise in racing.
