ZRT: T-minus 125 days: ‘Jacks, suspension and Fuel cell’ for the Honda.

With the weekend of Barcelona 24Hrs upon us and a few of the local UAE teams competing such as SVDP in the mighty D1 class BMW and the Moutran brothers in their long campaigning Seat A3T class monster, local Honda team ZRT are a long way from the track but planning is firmly in place to push the build and create the Enduro spec ‘A2 class’ contender. With 125-days to go the team are gelling great together and sharing the many tasks and responsibilities because as they say…. many hands make light work.

The last month was a busy one with extensive new part acquisitions including the following:

1. New Corbeau Revenge seat and 6-point Luke harness from Jon Simmons at MSW.

2. New 3-way AST suspension with new spring rates (the 1-year old spare set was also serviced by AST in UK).

3. Complete ATL 120L fuel cell supplied by Mike Scott of Gulfsport.

4. Buddyclub shifter kit, gearbox cooler, larger rear spoiler and side skirts aero package from Special Projects Motorsport in USA.

5. Racing specification wiring loom from Wireworx.

6. K20 Engine & gearbox from Zlatko (ex-Japan) and from Umair (ex-Sharjah scrapyard)!

We had two complete engines and numerous heads and blocks. Both engines were stripped down by Deutches Auto Service (DAS) for inspection. Our crate engine provided by Zlatko of Performance fame turned out to be in excellent condition however unfortunately the UAETC Championship winning engine revealed some bad news namely extreme piston wear. Thankfully Umair Khan’s negotiating skills yielded us another type R K20 engine and box from Sharjah within a few days. Now we have more blocks and heads than we know what to do with!

The main tasks for the month of September for the DAS team are the fitting of the AP air-jacks system, reinstall suspension and fit the huge 120L ATL fuel cell and refill system. We are waiting for Phil Craven (AKA: Shirt) to come back from his “holiday” in Chad to manage the floor modifications J

Next month’s update ‘T-minus 100’: ‘Gear ratios, engine builds, brakes and lights’.
