Sat 14th Jan 2012 -The Qatar National Road Racing Championship had eleven drivers participate in the second round this weekend. Pole position man on Friday was Qatari Saadoon Al Kuwari.
Rob Frijns from the Netherlands, started second on the grid. The Qatari driver with a Porsche 901 clocked the fastest lap with a time of 2.05.033 in the 8th lap. Both drivers are also taking part in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. A round of this championship will be held at Losail International Circuit on 2nd and 3rd March 2012.
Saadoon al Kuwari won the race on Friday and now leads the championship while defending Champ Rob Frijns, couldn’t follow his rhythm. The Qatari driver with the Porsche 901 gave no chance to the other drivers and clocked his best time in 2.06.176 with a gap of 1:42.574 on Frijns.
Frijns who finished in second position said at the press conference “maybe with the help of the weather conditions it might have been in my favor and equal the Saadoons level but I had no chance on old tyres”
Brit Tim Stevens finished third in the Open Class and he is extremely happy with this result as it is the best finish so far.
In Production Class, Jassim Al Maadeed was first in this class.’ I started the last at the grid.I built a strategy and also thanks to the wind that was in his favor I managed to gain positions lap by lap and overtook the others. I am very happy for today race’ Al Maadded stated at the press conference. Amro Al Hamad and Ahmed Allouh finished second and third respectively in the Production Class.
Bikes- Alex Cudlin has a successful start in his attempt to regain the 2012 Championship
Alex Cudlin, the defendant champion title is back and finished first in the first race of Qatar International Road Racing Championship. Cudlin had a very tought battle with Mashel Al Naimi who was leading the first three laps but during lap four Alex overtook him. Even though Mashel Al Naimi made the fastest lap, 2.03.842, he couldn’t reach the rhythm of Alex. Al Naimi finished second with a gap of 2.272. Alex Cudlin is very pleased to be back and moreover with this result. He did not take part in the previous two rounds but he will try to push very hard to regain the points he lost and win the championship again. In third position, the winner of the last round, Scott Smart, had some technical problems yesterday and did not have enough time to set up his bike but he is happy with the podium. The woman rider, Nina Prinz was very competitive and came in a very impressive forth position. In the LARRS category, Doni Tata Pradita and Ali Rusmiputro finished first and second respectively.
The podium trophies were given by Mr. Mohammed Saad Al Morraikhi and Mr. Rashid Al Sulaiti.
In the second race of QIRRCH the scenery was the same and Cudlin, Al Naimi and Smart were in the top three.
