Emirati Humaid Al Masaood is relishing the challenge of round seven of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) when he and Steve Kane get ready to race their Mazda Lola Coupe at this weekend’s Road America circuit, the latest venue of Oryx Racings’ US debut season.

Following a retirement from the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge Al Masaood sees the grueling four hour test at Wisconsin as an opportunity to close the gap on the Series leaders with a strong performance. Widely renowned as one of the best circuits in the US the Road America track is a favourite among all of the drivers given the circuit’s great history.

Looking ahead to the race, Al Masaood said: “Road America is a famous venue and I am positive the experience we have gained so far in the series will stand us in good stead. As each race is completed we continue to build the pace of the car, improve on our pit-stops and ultimately close the gap on the leaders.”

Abu Dhabi-based Al Masaood, who races alongside British teammate Steven Kane, will be tested by the 6.515 km track which is one of only a handful of circuits that remained unchanged since it was built in the 1950’s and features many elevations and a long front stretch which could benefit Oryx racings’ style.

“With an estimated race time of four hours the race should give the teams more opportunity to strategically gain positions,” said Al Masaood, speaking ahead of qualifying. “Personally I am happy with our race management, we have adapted very well and I am feeling comfortable with how preparations are progressing. The goal is to qualify well and keep the pressure on the leaders.”

This Sunday’s race is the seventh of the 2011 ALMS following practice days and qualifying on Friday and Saturday.  To keep up with all the action, UAE motorsport fans can visit the Oryx Racing Facebook page, which will carry regular updates from the team.
