Dubai-UAE: 21 Jan 2011 – Clarion Events Middle East today announced it will showcase the ‘Icon Sheene’, one of the fastest and most expensive road motorcycles in the world, at the Gulf Bike Expo 2011, part of the Gulf Bike Week 2011.

The Icon Sheene has been built as a tribute to the life and career of motorcycle racing legend, Barry Sheene. The British-born double world champion remains one of the most famous names in motorcycling even today despite his death seven years ago.

Freddie Sheene, son of Barry Sheene and Icon Sheene designer, said:  “It has been a great experience putting my ideas towards the bike – it has come a long way since the beginning of the year.  It’s incredible to ride and very quick, although, the world class engineering also makes it safe and rideable for bikers of most abilities.”

The Icon Sheene is a new breed of motorcycle, referred to as the ‘Ultrabike’. The 1400cc turbocharged engine produces a staggering 250bhp, reaching a top speed of 200mph.

Freddie Sheene designed and built in Nottingham by manufacturer Icon Motorcycles

The Sheene Ultrabike, was designed in collaboration with the Sheene family, engineers, mechanics and friends of Barry Sheene. The hand-built motorcycle pays strict attention to quality and detail. The degree of precision engineering results in superior handling and performance in every ride.

The bike, retailing at £107,000 (Dh613,733) will be bespoke for each owner, with a special fitting and a photographic journey of the build process. (The bike presented at GulfBike Expo is for sale)

Christopher Hudson, Managing Director, Clarion Events Middle East, said: “It is an honour to have the prestigious Icon Sheene Ultrabike from Icon Motorcycles at the Gulf Bike Expo. Barry Sheene’s exuberance and fearlessness made him a legend in the late 70s and a hero to motorcycle racing enthusiasts all over the world. Visitors have the opportunity to witness engineering perfection that sets a new standard of excellence and personifies the bike racing legend, Barry Sheene.”

Available in Satin Black or Titanium silver, each bike is tailored to the buyer’s height, weight and size. Production is limited to 52 bikes, one for every year of Barry Sheene’s life.

Held under that patronage of His Excellency Mohammed Bin Sulayem, FIA Vice-President for Sport and President of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE), Gulf Bike Week will take place from February 10 to 12, 2011, at Dubai Festival City.

With an estimated 40,000 visitors and over 150 exhibitors in a 6,800sq. m. exhibition marquee, the Gulf Bike Week 2011 is the Middle East’s only dedicated urban bike festival in the region.
