Cost effective endurance racing with an emphasis on fun will arrive in Dubai Autodrome for two 6 hr races by Jan 27th-29th 2011.
The Funcup endurance racing series is one of the most successful European endurance series, and has been running events for 14 yrs.
“Funcup racing offers the excitement, drama and passion of long distance endurance racing, with teams of like minded drivers.” Tony Burton commented
The cars are purpose built, with an 1800cc VW/Audi engine producing 130 bhp, and quick, weighing only 760kg, they have a superb power to weight ratio. Over 400 cars have been produced to date from the factory in Belgium and the unique class of racing have been supremely successful, spreading from country to country, to include Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the United Kingdom.
The races usually last between 3-6 hours, with a 1 hour qualifying session, in Dubai Autodrome, 2 six hour races over two days will be held on both the National and International configurations. Grid positions are selected from a random ballot, rather than times set in qualifying, this adds to the concept of “Fun” for all.
Each race is split into sections of between 30 – 60 minutes, at the end of each session all cars must pit and stop for refuel and driver change, the racing is ultra close with fractions between the leaders, frequently just 1 or 2 seconds separate the leaders at the chequered flag, after 5 hours of action!! All teams share the race strategy, risks, and rewards.
With a car cost of only 5400 euro or 25,600 AED per car ( including shipping) drivers can expect to race on many of the exciting circuits in the Middle East region over the coming months of Oct to March 2011.
The races are televised through, Showtime Sports, Motors TV (Europe) and Arab Motors TV, alongside the social media and online networks.
