Rally: Al Mutawaa happy with French Antibes Rally debut
May 12-14, 2017, Antibes (France) – Abu Dhabi Racing (ADR) junior driver Mohamed Al Mutawaa and co-driver Niall Burns return with rich experience following their debut at the 52nd Antibes Cote d’Azur Rally, the French Rally Championship, which ran from May 12-14.
Co-driven by Burns of Ireland, Al Mutawaa was behind the wheel of a DS3 R3 run by PH Sport for the three-day event that covered a distance of nearly 199km.
For Al Mutawaa, his debut at the event with new co-driver Burns was all about gaining maximum experience as he progresses in his rallying career following a season in the FIA Junior Rally World Championship in the past two seasons.
Al Mutawaa said: “I am really happy to finish the rally, we learnt a lot. First of all, we learnt how to maintain the brakes; towards the last two stages I started right-foot braking so that the brakes don’t heat up fast. Also Niall and I were working on our notes and trying to find our rhythm.
“We have a bit more to work on but we are getting there slowly. I’m really happy to finish the event and looking forward to the next rally.
“A big thanks to Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi and Abu Dhabi Racing for believing in me.”
Team Manager Ron Cremen said: “Mohammed used the event to gain experience. Antibes Rally is not for the faint hearted and he showed good control on a very special rally.”
Up next for Al Mutawaa is Rallye Terre de Langres – Haute-Marne (gravel rally) from June 30- July 2.
