France, June 13th 2015 – Abu Dhabi-Proton racing advanced into 4th place within the first 15 minutes of the start and Khaled Al Qubaisi: “We were on track for a podium finish, but let down by technical problem moved up to 3rd within the first hour Le Mans, June 14th 2015 – Team Abu Dhabi–Proton team had to retire early from the Le Mans 24hr race. The retirement came in the 3rd hr of the race due to technical problems which led to an oil spill causing a fire in the car’s engine.
Abu Dhabi – Proton racing consisting of UAE Champion Khaled Al Qubaisi and team mates Christian Ried and Klaus Bachler got off to an excellent start in the 83rd version of the Le Mans 24hr race in the number 88 Abu Dhabi racing colored Porsche 911 RSR.
Klaus Bachler (24 years old) advanced from 6th to 4th in LMGTE Am class within the first 15 minutes of the start and then in just under an hour they had moved up to 3rd position.
“It was an excellent start from Klaus, we were all nervous during the 1st lap, but things went very well and we were on track for a podium finish by the end of the 1st hr.”
Al Qubaisi said and added: “However, unfortunately there was a fire in our engine while Christian Reid was driving. The incident took place while the safety car was on track, allowing the marshals to clean up the debris from an Audi crash. It’s frustrating when you have to retire early in the race from a problem beyond your control especially as we were confident we had the speed and the balance needed to compete. We were hoping to repeat last year’s result and finish on the podium but we were unlucky”.
