Karting: Al Ain Raceway Rotax Max Challenge round seven report from Al Forsan
17th February 2012- Round 7 of the 2011/12 Al Ain Raceway Kart Club Rotax MAX Challenge national karting series took place at the impressive Al Forsan circuit inAbu Dhabi.
Abdullah Al Rawahi put the disappointment of the last round behind him with a close run win in Junior MAX. He led a three kart train and was shadowed the entire distance by Patrick Hannah and Tom Bale. On the final lap Bale made a lunge down the inside of Hannah at Turn 7 to take second.
In the Senior MAX class a cameo appearance by Edward Jones sent shockwaves through the class. After maintaining a gap of around 2 seconds he went on to win and brought Sanad Al Rawahi’s winning streak to an end. Al Rawahi diced early on with Piers Pakenham-Walsh and crossed the second, fractions ahead of the latter.
The DD2 race was a fantastic battle which saw Maurits Knopjes and Mohammed Al Dhaheri run nose to tail at the front. Al Dhaheri made his move stick at halfway and fended off the hard charging Knopjes. Near the end Knopjes attempted a move that didn’t work and as a result dropped to third behind Oliver George.
In MAX Master, Luc Bauwmans made the best of a good start by pulling out a gap and simply holding it to the finish line for another win that lifts him closer to the top of the points standing. Walid Al Qassemi eventually broke free of the pack and drove alone to second place. Paul Woodfield capitalised on Andrew Fullers mechanical defect to take third.
