Abu Dhabi, 20th November 2011 – Twelve sensational Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo race cars hit the track for the official pre-season test for the Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.

Regional gentlemen drivers from the Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Kuwait joined drivers from Europe to test the 488bhp 4.7-litre engined Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo race cars for the first time. Throughout a full day of on-track sessions, the 15 drivers had the opportunity to experience the performance and handling characteristics of the car on Yas Marina’s technical South Circuit that passes under the Yas Hotel. They also practised two dry-run race starts to prepare them for the first race.

Mohammed Jawa from Saudi Arabia is looking forward to the first race in Bahrain in two weeks’ time.”I thought the car was fantastic, I adapted very quickly the its downforce, weight and power – which are all very different to cars I have raced in the past. This is my first time racing in a GT car.”

Jawa is racing in the Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series with other members of GR8 Racing Team who are based in Saudi Arabia. ‘We were attracted to the series because all the cars are the same, so this will guarantee close competition between all of the drivers. It’s 100% down to the driver, not who has the best technical team or setup. It’s truly arrive and drive which is very good for a driver as you just have to focus on driving, Maserati look after everything else.”

The Maserati Trofeo JBF RAK series consists of a six-weekend, 12-race programme across the Middle East region with races taking place at Formula One circuits in Bahrain and the UAE, plus Losail in Qatar and the Dubai Autodrome. Drivers signed up for the series receive a tailored Maserati race suit plus VIP hospitality for themselves and guests at each race weekend.

Each driver is allocated a car to race for the full series with support their own dedicated mechanic to ensure the car is primed and ready for every race. Drivers are provided with tyres and fuel for each race weekend, plus have full technical backing of engineers from the Maserati Corse factory in Italy.
