Formula Gulf: UAEs first single seater racing series announces its International driver lineup

The UAE’s first junior single seater racing series, Formula Gulf 1000 (FG1000), gets underway in earnest this October, with some of the hottest Emirati and expat talent set to battle it out for the most prestigious junior motorsport title in the Middle East.

The fourteen-race programme, which will run under the auspices of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE), Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management (ADMM) and the Dubai Autodrome Motorsport Club (DAMC), will feature races at both the Yas Marina Circuit and Dubai Autodrome.

FG1000 was created by GulfSport Racing to offer ambitious kart racers and young racing drivers the opportunity to develop the specialist skills and experience necessary to represent their country in international motor racing. Eleven drivers graduated from three-day advanced driver training sessions at the Yas Marina Circuit under the guidance of professional driver coach Andy Pardoe. This was followed by testing at the Dubai Autodrome in April.

The first two rounds of the new FG1000 season take place on Friday 7th October at the Dubai Autodrome. Registered drivers for the 2011/2012 season include:

  • Mohamed Al Dhaheri (UAE), current UAE Rotax Max DD2 Champion
  • Mohamed Al Mutawaa (UAE), former Formula Campus and UAE GT competitor
  • Joe Ghanem (Lebanon),  current UAE GTC Champion
  • Natasha Seatter (Malaysia), Asia Karting Open Champion and Formula BMW Asia
  • Usmaan Mughal (Pakistan), former GulfSport Radical Cup competitor
  • Yastoor Mirza (Pakistan), Spanish Formula BMW race winner
  • Harsh Rajpal (India), kart racer

GulfSport’s Director of Racing, and organiser of the FG1000 championship, Barry Hope said, “With five kart and two race circuits in the UAE we are seeing some very talented young drivers coming through the system. This initiative is designed to provide the next step on the racing ladder for them and addresses several key issues. Firstly, it avoids the high cost of doing this in Europe, and secondly, it provides the highest levels of safety. It also demonstrates that the UAE is serious about its motor racing ambitions”.
