Drag Racing: 8,000 Horsepower of entertainment on and off the Yas Marina Drag Strip

Abu Dhabi, 1 March 2011 – Acclaimed UAE-based rock band Juliana Down will head the list of off-track entertainment at this weekend’s Yas Drag Racing Festival, where on-track action will feature a battle of Top Fuel champions and a jet-engined Funny Car demonstration.

Other entertainment at the Yas Drag Racing Centre will include fire dancers, a freestyle motorcycle display team, remote-controlled Monster Trucks, a Kids Zone and a DJ to keep the festival atmosphere pumping.

Rashed Al Qubaisi, Head of the Yas Drag Racing Centre, said that the Festival was shaping up as a worthy successor to last year’s sell-out inaugural event. “The huge variety of off-track entertainment will be the perfect complement to the already massive drag racing programme,” he said. “We are expecting around 65 competitors across a range of car and motorcycle classes, with the Top Fuel cars and the jet Funny Car as the feature events.”

Hot Rod Fuller, Chief Instructor at the Yas Drag Racing Centre and a 100-time US race winner, will compete with reigning FIA World Champion Urs Erbacher in their 8,000-horsepower Top Fuel dragsters. British-based driver Martin Hill will give demonstration runs in the world’s fastest jet-powered Funny Car, and Fuller will also be giving a lucky few spectators a ride in the Yas Three-Seat Super Comp dragster on both days.

Ticket-holders will also have full access to the paddock area, where fans can visit the drag car garages to witness behind-the-scene car preparations and mingle with professional drag racers.

Tickets are still available for the Yas Drag Racing Festival for AED 50, with children 12 and under free of charge. VIP Golden Circle tickets, situated at the start line, are available for AED 150.   Tickets can be purchased via the website www.yasmarinacircuit.com, by phone 800 YAS (927) or at any Virgin Megastore in the UAE.
